Who are we?
Read for Youth Justice is a resource dedicated to increasing understanding of the experiences of young people who have been impacted by the justice system begun by two youth justice advocates who haveworked with states and localities for over 30 years as, most recently as former administrators at the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
We believe that stories have the power to shift perception, challenge stigma, and build more informed and compassionatecommunities. By elevating books, narratives, and voices that reflect the realities of youths’ experiences in the justice system, we aim to help readers move beyond stereotypes and engage more deeply with issues of equity, opportunity, and youth well being.
Through partnerships with libraries, we support the integration of youth justice–centered reading into collections, programming, and community dialogue. Our goal is simple: to ensure that the experiences of justice-involved youth are not hidden orvmisunderstood, but instead are read, heard, and reflected upon.
By connecting readers, educators, and librarians with thoughtfully selected literature and resources, Read for Youth Justice works toward a future where every young person’s story is recognized as part of our shared humanity.
